Manchester United confirms Michael Carrick will stay as head coach

Manchester United announced that Michael Carrick has signed a new contract to remain head coach until 2028. Carrick, who took over in January 2026, guided the team to Champions League qualification with 11 wins from 16 league games and earned a Premier League Manager of the Month award after victories over Manchester City and Arsenal.

Former United figures have voiced support for Carrick’s tenure. Former defender Mikaël Silvestre said he would consider a director‑of‑football role at the club, while ex‑players Wayne Rooney and Antonio Valencia also expressed willingness to work with Carrick in any capacity.
