Manchester United eyes Alex Scott as midfield boost follows Ederson signing

Manchester United have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta for a reported £38.3 million, a move confirmed shortly before the 2026 World Cup. Ederson was added to Brazil's World Cup squad after an injury to full‑back Wesley, giving United a potential midfield option ahead of the tournament.

Following the Ederson deal, United are reported to be targeting 22‑year‑old Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. At roughly £40 million on the market, Scott fits United’s budget after a West Ham bid of £80 million for Mateus Fernandes proved too high. The club, which plans to move on senior midfielder Casemiro and has off‑loaded Manuel Ugarte, prefers midfield signings under £80 million and has dismissed other costlier targets such as Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton.
