Manchester United faces pressure over Michael Carrick's future

Manchester United faces growing pressure regarding head coach Michael Carrick following a difficult start to the Premier League season. After winning only one of five matches across all competitions and being eliminated from the Carabao Cup, the club sits in 12th place. Despite the poor results, reports suggest Carrick maintains the support of the dressing room, with players reportedly taking responsibility for the team's performance.

Speculation regarding a managerial change has intensified, with Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler and former Ipswich Town coach Kieran McKenna identified as potential candidates. However, securing Hurzeler would be costly; reports indicate Manchester United might need to pay between £10 million and £15 million to Brighton to release him, as his current contract runs until 2029. Sacking Carrick is also estimated to cost the club between £7.2 million and £8.8 million.

On the pitch, United is also managing squad depth issues, particularly at left-back due to fitness concerns regarding Luke Shaw. Player Patrick Dorgu has indicated a willingness to move into a left-back role to assist the team.
