Manchester United sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Atalanta

Manchester United have completed the signing of 26‑year‑old Brazilian midfielder Ederson from Serie A club Atalanta. The deal is reported to be worth an initial £35 million (approximately €40.5 million) with add‑on clauses that could raise the total to around £40 million ($47 million). Ederson will sign a four‑year contract running to 2030, with an option to extend for an additional year, pending a medical examination that is expected to be completed in early July 2026.

The transfer is the first major signing of the Michael Carrick era and forms the cornerstone of United’s midfield rebuild after the departure of Casemiro and the uncertain future of Manuel Ugarte. United’s director of football and scouting team are tasked with adding further depth to the midfield, left‑back and attacking positions ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League. Atalanta will record a significant profit from the sale, estimated at around €45 million, helping fund future squad improvements.

Ederson arrives with 180 appearances for Atalanta, 16 goals and six assists, and three caps for Brazil, providing the physicality and ball‑winning ability United identified as missing in their midfield.
