Manchester United faces security concerns over Carrington plans

Manchester United is facing opposition regarding its plans for the Carrington training complex. The club has applied to extend the use of a temporary parking facility, originally intended for contractors during a £50 million refurbishment, for an additional three years.

Greater Manchester Police have raised security concerns regarding the proposal. Following consultations with counter-terrorism specialists, authorities warned that the high-profile nature of the site requires improved pedestrian access controls to prevent ‘bad actors’ from entering the premises unnoticed. While there is no specific terror threat, the police have urged the club to implement more robust security measures.

Additionally, the local community group Friends of Carrington Moss has submitted a formal objection to the council. The group criticized the club for a lack of consultation with residents and expressed concerns over the removal of trees and vegetation in the area. The club must now await a final decision from the local council.
