Manchester United honors fallen officers in A66 crash tribute
Manchester United honored PC Matthew Blades and his colleague PC Tom Clough during their Premier League match against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. The two sons of PC Blades served as mascots, walking onto the pitch alongside club captain Bruno Fernandes and goalkeeper Senne Lammens.
PC Blades and PC Clough were killed on August 22 in a head-on collision on the A66 near Middlesbrough when a vehicle traveling the wrong way struck their police car. Five occupants of the other vehicle also died in the accident. A total of 24 arrests have been made as part of the ongoing investigation.
Tributes were held across the sporting community, including a minute of applause at a Middlesbrough FC match and various observances by Hartlepool United and Darlington FC. Additionally, a fundraising appeal launched by the Cleveland Police Federation has raised over £1.1 million to support the officers' families.
