Manchester United ramps up pursuit of midfield targets Felix Nmecha and Mateus Fernandes

Manchester United have intensified their search for midfield reinforcements this summer. The club is in advanced talks to sign German international Felix Nmecha, a 25‑year‑old Borussia Dortmund midfielder who impressed at the World Cup with a goal against Curaçao and an assist against Ivory Coast. Nmecha is under contract until 2030 with no release clause, and Dortmund are reported to value him at around £70‑86 million. United face competition from Newcastle United, which has also expressed interest, and other European clubs are monitoring the player.

United are also targeting West Ham United’s Portuguese midfielder Mateus Fernandes. After West Ham’s relegation, the 21‑year‑old’s €80 million price tag has sparked a bidding war with Tottenham Hotspur. United have made a fresh offer and are prepared to improve their contract terms to outbid Spurs and secure the player before the transfer window closes. These pursuits come as United have already agreed to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, adding further depth to their midfield roster.

Both targets are being tracked closely by United’s recruitment director Christopher Vivell, who maintains contact with the players’ representatives while evaluating offers and potential competition.
