Manchester United near £39m deal for Atalanta midfielder Ederson

Manchester United are said to be one step away from completing a transfer for Brazil international Ederson, who plays for Serie A side Atalanta. Sources report that the club has agreed personal terms and is finalising a €45 million (£39 million) fee with Atalanta, along with a five‑year contract that runs to 2031 and pays about £4.3 million per season. The move would replace departing midfielder Casemiro, whose contract ends on June 30 and who is headed for Inter Miami, and could also see the exit of Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled to adapt to the Premier League.

United are also monitoring Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali, who is expected to command a price around £100 million, though the Red Devils appear less convinced of his fit for the squad. Sky Sport Italy and journalists including Nicolo Schira, as well as transfer analyst Fabrizio Romano, have highlighted the club’s broader plan to overhaul its midfield in order to compete for the Champions League and Premier League titles.

If the Ederson deal is sealed, it would represent the first confirmed summer signing for United and a significant midfield upgrade worth a combined £140 million when considered alongside potential additional targets.
