Manchester United plans £500 million squad overhaul

Manchester United is advancing through a multi-year squad restructuring project led by INEOS, with the third phase expected to focus heavily on the defense by the summer of 2027. The total cost of this overhaul is estimated to exceed £500 million (approximately €581 million).

Reports indicate the club plans to acquire up to four new defenders in 2027, potentially including two full-backs and two center-backs. Newcastle United’s 21-year-old Lewis Hall has been identified as a primary target for the club to address the left-back position. While previous transfer attempts for Hall were blocked by Newcastle, reports suggest his representatives have given a green light for a move to Old Trafford in 2027.

The club's management will evaluate the performance of current defenders, including Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, and Matthijs de Ligt, before finalizing these new signings. The restructuring follows significant prior investments in players such as Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko.
