Manchester United plans for Kobbie Mainoo after World Cup benching

Midfielder Kobbie Mainoo did not play a single minute for England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, remaining on the bench throughout the tournament despite earlier strong performances for Manchester United. Former manager Thomas Tuchel opted not to use him, a decision criticised by former coach Neil Warnock, who argued Mainoo could have been a useful substitute.

Manchester United intend to reintegrate Mainoo under interim manager Michael Carrick, giving him playing time at Old Trafford. At the same time, striker Marcus Rashford will return to the squad after a season‑long loan at Barcelona, though the club may consider his transfer if suitable offers arise.
