Manchester United remains the only Big 6 club without a £100m signing

Manchester United remains the only member of the Premier League ‘Big 6’ that has never signed a player for a fee exceeding £100 million. The club’s most expensive acquisition to date is Paul Pogba, who joined from Juventus in 2016 for £89 million. Other significant expenditures include the £80 million signing of Harry Maguire.

While the club has lagged behind its rivals in single-player spending, Sky Sports expert Danyal Khan suggests the £100 million threshold is becoming an outdated metric due to market appreciation. Khan noted that a player like Pogba would likely command a fee well over £100 million in the current market.

Recent transfer activity highlights the club's strategic focus rather than a reluctance to spend. During the summer, United prioritized midfield reinforcements, targeting players such as Carlos Baleba, Youri Tielemans, and Andrey Santos, after being unable to secure targets like Lewis Hall and Myles Lewis-Skelly who were not for sale.
