Manchester United reports seventh consecutive annual loss
Manchester United has reported its seventh consecutive annual financial loss, with a net deficit of £43 million for the 2025/26 fiscal year. Despite achieving record revenues of £677.6 million, driven largely by a 20 percent increase in broadcasting income following a third-place Premier League finish, the club's bottom line was impacted by rising costs.
Net finance costs surged by over 228 percent to £69.6 million, a jump attributed to high debt levels and foreign exchange losses. The club's total debt remains above £1 billion, which includes historic debt, revolving credit facilities, and outstanding transfer fees. Additionally, the club spent £63.5 million to acquire land adjacent to Old Trafford for a proposed 100,000-capacity stadium.
Under the leadership of Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club has implemented significant cost-cutting measures, including staff reductions and a decrease in the wage bill to a six-year low of £302 million. To generate additional revenue, the club has also launched unconventional commercial initiatives, such as selling preserved 7cm x 7cm pieces of the former Old Trafford pitch in acrylic cubes for £125 each.
