Manchester United reports record revenue amid high debt
Manchester United has released its financial results for the 2024-2025 period, revealing a complex economic landscape. The club reported record revenues of £677.6 million and an operating profit of £22.6 million, a significant improvement from the £113.2 million loss recorded in the previous fiscal year. However, the institution continues to carry a debt exceeding £1 billion and reported a pre-tax loss of £43 million.
In an effort to generate additional revenue and engage fans, the club has begun selling pieces of the original turf from Old Trafford as collectible items. These 7x7 cm fragments, encased in acrylic cubes, are priced at £125 and are available exclusively to club members. The sale follows a complete excavation of the pitch in June to improve drainage and surface conditions.
These financial developments occur amid sporting challenges and cost-cutting measures implemented under shareholder Jim Ratcliffe, including staff layoffs and a reduction in the total wage bill by approximately £11 million.
