Manchester United secures land and partners for £2‑billion 100,000‑seat stadium

Manchester United has acquired a 25‑acre plot about 350 m north‑west of Old Trafford, clearing the way for a new 100,000‑seat stadium that would be the largest in Britain. The club estimates the project will cost around £2 billion, with some forecasts suggesting the figure could double. Legal adviser Slaughter & May, which helped deliver Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium and redevelop Goodison Park, is providing early‑stage construction and procurement advice.

Club CEO Collette Roche said the proximity to Old Trafford “allows us to preserve the heritage, traditions and rituals that are so important to our fans.” The privately‑financed scheme will seek naming‑rights revenue and other private investment, while minority owner Jim Ratcliffe continues to back the new‑stadium option over renovating the existing ground.
