Manchester United sign Ederson for £38m as Carrick starts midfield rebuild

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Ederson for an initial €40.5 million (approximately £38 million) plus add‑ons, making him the first summer signing under permanent head coach Michael Carrick. The deal is expected to be completed in early July and includes a four‑year contract with an optional extra year.

The signing follows the departure of veteran midfielder Casemiro and is part of Carrick’s plan to overhaul United’s midfield. The club is also pursuing West Ham’s 21‑year‑old Mateus Fernandes, who has expressed a preference for a move to Old Trafford, and is monitoring other candidates such as Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Elliot Anderson. Meanwhile, striker Rasmus Højlund has already left for Napoli, and the future of Marcus Rashford remains uncertain after his loan at Barcelona ended.
