Manchester United completes £50m signing of Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos
Manchester United have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign 22‑year‑old Brazilian midfielder Andrey Santos. The deal is structured at £48 million upfront with £2 million in performance‑related bonuses and a 10 % sell‑on clause for Chelsea. Santos is expected to sign a five‑year contract running to June 2031 after passing a medical at Carrington.
The transfer, valued at roughly £50 million (about R$ 344 million), follows United’s midfield rebuild after the departure of Casemiro and the injury to Manuel Ugarte. Manager Michael Carrick sees Santos as a long‑term replacement, complementing the other Brazilian signing, Ederson, also linked with a move from Atalanta. Santos joined Chelsea in 2023 from Vasco da Gama, made 43 appearances for the London club last season, and spent loan spells at Nottingham Forest and Strasbourg, where he scored 10 goals in Ligue 1. He has six caps for Brazil.
The agreement includes a sell‑on clause that will give Chelsea 10 % of any future transfer fee. United will complete the registration after the medical, making the signing one of the club’s biggest summer investments and a key part of their plan to compete in the Premier League and Champions League.
