Manchester United social media post sparks Ronaldo controversy

Manchester United has drawn scrutiny following a social media post featuring a clip from the 2021/22 season. The video depicts a moment where Cristiano Ronaldo stops running after a ball, assuming it would go out of bounds, while teammate Edinson Cavani continues the play to keep the ball in action. The club captioned the video with the phrase, “Such work ethic.”

Due to the contentious history between the club and the Portuguese forward, many observers have interpreted the post as a provocation. Ronaldo’s second stint at Old Trafford ended in November 2022 following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan, in which he expressed feelings of betrayal and criticized the lack of progress at the club since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson. While the club has not explicitly stated the video is directed at Ronaldo, the timing and content have sparked significant debate among fans and commentators.
