Manchester United to face Atletico Madrid in Stockholm friendly

Manchester United and Atletico Madrid will meet in a pre‑season friendly on Saturday, 1 August 2026 at the Strawberry Arena in Stockholm. The match is part of United’s preparation for the 2026‑27 Premier League season and Atletico’s build‑up to the 2026‑27 La Liga campaign.

United, managed by Michael Carrick, come into the game after a 1‑0 loss to Wrexham and a 5‑0 win over Rosenborg. Carrick has been rotating the squad, with Leny Yoro having featured at right‑back despite being a natural centre‑back. The French defender is expected to move back to his preferred position, while 19‑year‑old Jaydan Kamason, who impressed with two assists against Rosenborg, could earn a start. Goalkeeper options include Bayindir, Heaton, Mee and Vitek, and the defensive line lists Maguire, Heaven, Shaw and Yoro.

Atletico, coached by Diego Simeone, opened their pre‑season with a 4‑1 victory over Getafe and have added players such as Morten Hjulmand, Lee Kang‑in and Alejandro Grimaldo. Their squad is largely intact, though several World Cup participants remain on holiday.
