Manchester United cancels €45m Ederson transfer amid medical concerns
Manchester United had reached an agreement with Atalanta for midfielder Ederson, valued at €45 million (approximately £38 million) and including performance bonuses. The deal was announced as confirmed in early June and was expected to be finalized after the 2026 World Cup.
Following the tournament, United ordered additional medical examinations. Reports cite a knee issue identified in the tests, prompting the club to withdraw from the transfer. Atalanta maintains that Ederson is fully fit and will retain him for the upcoming season. Fabrizio Romano posted on X that the deal is "OFF" and that United "changed their plans".
The collapse leaves United to pursue other midfield targets, notably Chelsea's Andrey Santos, while Atalanta is reportedly working on a new contract to keep Ederson at the club.
