Mancomunidad del Embalse de Béjar rejects Somacyl water project
The Mancomunidad del Embalse de Béjar has rejected a proposal by the public company Somacyl to manage the communal water supply service and execute a network improvement project. The rejected agreement involved a total investment of 3.032 million euros.
Key components of the project included the construction of a new reservoir in Fuentebuena, costing 579,000 euros, which was intended to double the current storage capacity by September 2026. Additionally, the plan proposed a parallel pipeline from the Navamuño reservoir to the Los Pinos reservoir to improve the supply to Béjar.
The decision was reached through an absolute majority, driven by the voting power of the Béjar City Council, whose four representatives hold 52% of the total votes. While several municipalities opposed the measure, others voted in favor or abstained.
