Mandarin availability and nutritional benefits
Mandarin oranges are currently available at low prices in Podgorica's Truck Market, with Ulcinj varieties selling for as little as 50 cents per kilogram and smaller ones for 35 cents. While supply is sufficient, producers from Ulcinj face sales challenges due to a lack of exports to Albania, and drought has impacted the size and quality of some crops.
Nutritionally, mandarins are a low-calorie fruit rich in vitamins C and B, calcium, magnesium, zinc, and potassium. A single medium mandarin provides approximately 47 calories, 12 grams of carbohydrates, and 26% of the daily recommended intake of vitamin C. Experts suggest consuming 2 to 3 mandarins daily as part of a balanced diet to support immune function, heart health, and brain function.
