The Hungarian government has announced the immediate termination of all funding for the Mandiner publication, labeling it a 'lying propaganda outlet'. This decision follows the dismissal of Gergő Kereki, the CEO of Mandiner Novum Zrt., who was removed by order of Finance Minister András Kármán.

The ownership of Mandiner transitioned to the Ministry of Finance following the dissolution of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC) Foundation. This restructuring comes amid significant staff reductions at the outlet, including the suspension of its print edition in August.

Finance Minister Kármán stated that the move is part of a broader effort to ensure public funds are used for the benefit of the economy and citizens rather than for propaganda. Despite receiving 1.1 billion forints in support from the MCC, Mandiner reportedly closed the previous year with a 1.1 billion forint deficit. Former employees have since announced the launch of a new media outlet named Konfront.
