Mandiner news portal returns as archive following state takeover
The Mandiner news portal has returned to availability, though it currently functions only as an archive of previously published content. The site had previously become inaccessible following a series of administrative and financial changes.
Following the dissolution of the foundation managing the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC), the state assumed control of its assets, including the publisher of Mandiner. In September, Finance Minister András Kármán dismissed Gergő Kereki, the CEO and editor-in-chief of Mandiner Novum Nonprofit Zrt., and immediately halted all funding for the outlet.
The transition follows a period of significant downsizing, including the departure of approximately sixty employees and the suspension of the Mandiner weekly print edition in July. While some public figures have criticized the abrupt shutdown of the platform, the site now displays a notice stating that its content service has ceased and only archives remain accessible.
