Mandla: Four youths die in Ganesh pandal electrocution

Four youths were killed and three others injured due to electrocution at a Ganesh pandal in Hirapur village, located in the Nainpur area of Mandla district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, between approximately 4:00 AM and 5:30 AM.

The victims, identified as Jainu Bhanware (19), Ravi Jharia (24), Krishna Kumar Bhanware (18), and Virendra Bhanware (24), died at the scene. Three other youths were injured; one, identified as Priyanshu, was referred to the district hospital in critical condition, while two others are receiving treatment at a hospital in Nainpur.

According to Nainpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Manish Raj, the youths had returned from a Ganesh idol immersion ceremony and remained inside the pandal to guard equipment and belongings. The accident was triggered when an electric wire came into contact with the structure, spreading current through the pandal where the youths were sleeping. Local reports suggest a storm may have contributed to a wire touching an iron grill. The electricity department is currently investigating whether the cause was a short circuit or a broken high-voltage line.
