Mandra Police Station: Man shot after knife attack
A 31-year-old man is in critical condition in the intensive care unit of Thriasio Hospital after being shot by police during a knife attack at the Mandra-Edyllia Police Station. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon when the man, who reportedly suffers from severe mental health issues, entered the station brandishing a knife and behaving aggressively.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene where the assailant broke through a door and shattered glass, causing a minor injury to one officer. Despite repeated commands from police to drop the weapon, the man continued to advance threateningly toward officers, reportedly shouting, ‘Shoot, shoot, why don’t you shoot me?’. To neutralize the threat, an officer discharged his service weapon, striking the man in the abdomen and chest.
The suspect has a history of mental health struggles and previous run-ins with authorities, including past arrests for domestic violence and threats against neighbors. Following the incident, a legal investigation was launched; the suspect faces charges of attempted murder with intent, while a case was also opened against the officer involved for weapons law violations, though the prosecutor released him on verbal order.
