Mandya Jail Superintendent transferred over negligence allegations

Mandya District Jail Superintendent Shanthamma has been transferred to Ballari Central Prison following allegations of official negligence. The transfer order, issued by Director General of Police (Prisons) Alok Kumar, comes in response to reports of an undertrial prisoner receiving “royal hospitality” and special treatment.

The incident involves Mohammed Hussain, an undertrial prisoner held in connection with a land scam case. Hussain was reportedly moved to Mandya MIMS Hospital due to alleged back pain, despite claims that he was not actually ill. During a sudden inspection by Mandya District Sessions Judge C Chandrashekhar, Hussain was allegedly found at the hospital with his girlfriend.

The official transfer order states that “prima facie, official negligence” was observed regarding the administration of the Mandya District Prison. Shanthamma has been deputed on special duty to Ballari Central Prison effective immediately, pending a comprehensive inquiry report into the matter.
