Maned Wolf Released in Santa Fe’s El Fisco Natural Reserve
A rescued maned wolf (aguará guazú, Chrysocyon brachyurus) that had been found in an urban area of Puerto General San Martín was transferred to the provincial Centre for Rescue La Esmeralda in Santa Fe. After veterinary examinations and behavioral assessments confirmed the animal was healthy, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change authorized its release.
The wolf was re‑introduced this week into the Reserva Natural El Fisco in the San Cristóbal department, a protected area suitable for the species. Minister Enrique Estévez emphasized that each rescue helps restore wildlife to its natural habitat and reminded the public to report sightings to authorities rather than intervene. The aguará guazú is classified as a Provincial Natural Monument, protected due to habitat loss, road accidents and persecution.
