Manfred Lütz urges politicians to address AfD voter emotions

Psychiatrist and theologian Manfred Lütz has advised German politicians to better address the emotions of Alternative for Germany (AfD) voters. Speaking on the Berlin-based podcast ‘Table today’, Lütz commented on the recent state election results in Saxony-Anhalt.

Lütz argued against labeling all AfD supporters as right-wing extremists or Nazis, suggesting instead that many voters are driven by anger and feelings of being disconnected from their communities. He noted that voters often feel alienated by migration and integration issues, and that being quickly stigmatized as racists has pushed individuals toward the party, which offers them a platform to speak freely.

He cautioned that simply implementing reform policies may not win these voters back, as their political choices are heavily influenced by emotional factors and a sense of not feeling at home in their own cities.
