Manfredonia and Como see resident protests over noisy street gatherings

In the historic centre of Manfredonia, a weekly quiz‑show called “Dr. Why” is held every Monday in local pubs, with music levels reported above 100 dB. Residents and a local committee allege the event breaches noise‑pollution limits, public‑safety regulations and hampers emergency access, while the mayor and police are accused of ignoring complaints.

In Como, teenagers set up portable sound systems on Via Garibaldi and Piazza Volta each Saturday, turning the streets into open‑air discos. The volume and accompanying dancing have prompted a petition to the prefect, Corrado Conforto Galli, and repeated calls for police patrols. Incidents have included fights, a stabbing of a 19‑year‑old and medical emergencies, yet authorities have been unable to prevent the gatherings.

Both towns’ residents are demanding stricter enforcement of local noise ordinances and a permanent police presence to restore public order.
