Manfredonia names integration project after Father Arcangelo Maira

The Manfredonia municipal council has officially decided to name the SAI (System for Reception and Integration) project, known as ‘Capitanata Solidale’, after Father Arcangelo Maira. The resolution was approved unanimously on September 14, 2026, following a proposal by Mayor Domenico La Marca.

Father Maira, a Scalabrinian missionary, is recognized for his extensive pastoral and social service in the Manfredonia, Siponto, and Capitanata regions between 2007 and 2015. He was particularly noted for his work supporting seasonal migrant workers in the Foggia countryside and assisting vulnerable populations in areas such as the Borgo Mezzanone ghetto.

The naming serves as an institutional tribute to his commitment to human rights, dignity, and social inclusion. While the project will carry his name for the 2026-2028 programming period, the decision is symbolic and will not alter official administrative codes or the project's formal logo.
