Saint Clare of Assisi celebrated on feast day

August 11 marks the feast day of Saint Clare of Assisi, the 13th-century founder of the Order of Poor Clares. Born into a noble family in Assisi, Clare famously renounced her wealth and social status to follow the spiritual path of Saint Francis of Assisi. Her commitment to extreme poverty and contemplative prayer led to the establishment of a religious community that continues to exist globally.

In 1958, Pope Pius XII designated Saint Clare as the patron saint of television and telecommunications. This designation is linked to a tradition describing how, while bedridden and unable to attend Mass, she experienced a vision of the celebration, allowing her to participate spiritually.
