Manga Mavericks appoints Erica Friedman as Managing Editor

Manga Mavericks has appointed Erica Friedman as its new Managing Editor. The move comes as the North American publisher prepares for an aggressive expansion in 2027, with plans to release over 40 titles.

Friedman is an established manga critic and author, known for her work on Yuri culture and her long-running blog, Okazu. She has also authored ‘By Your Side: The First 100 Years of Yuri Anime and Manga’ and contributed to various academic and mainstream publications.

Manga Mavericks, which launched in 2025, focuses on bringing distinctive Japanese comics and underrepresented creators to English-speaking audiences. The company’s upcoming catalog will cover genres including alternative, shojo/josei, LGBTQ+, and classic manga.
