Mangaluru student dies after wall collapse at union event

A parapet wall collapsed at the Rama Lakshmi Sabha Bhavan in Mangaluru during a student union installation ceremony on Saturday, resulting in the death of a 16-year-old student and injuring four others.

The incident occurred at the Yemmekere venue during an event for the Dakshina Kannada unit of the All College Students Union. Due to overcrowding inside the hall, many students were standing in the corridor. Reports indicate that some students were leaning against the wall, which may have been structurally weak, causing it to give way.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammad Shamaz, a resident of Haleangadi, who was declared brain dead following the accident. The injured individuals include Mohammed Shanan (18), Haneef (23), Mohammed Shakeel Hussain (18), and Dawood Farsin Ahmed (18).

Police have launched an investigation into the collapse to determine if structural weaknesses or inadequate safety arrangements contributed to the tragedy. The investigation will also examine the number of people present at the venue at the time of the incident.
