Manguiline neighborhood seeks infrastructure to revive economic history
The Manguiline neighborhood in Bignona, once a vital economic hub in the Fogny region, is currently facing a lack of adequate social infrastructure. Historically, the area served as a major center for agricultural trade and European imports, benefiting from both river and road commerce.
Local residents recall a time when the nearby marigot was a primary source of fishing, with community members selling catches to support themselves. Today, the waterway is largely used as a watering hole for livestock. While the neighborhood retains its cultural identity, many of its former commercial landmarks and historical sites now stand abandoned.
