Manhattan woman found beaten to death near young child

A 27-year-old woman was found beaten to death in a Manhattan apartment in Washington Heights on Sunday afternoon. NYPD officers discovered the body during a wellness check at a residence on 156th Street near Amsterdam Avenue.

Inside the apartment, investigators found a 5-year-old child who was unharmed, though the child had been left alone with the victim's body for an undetermined period. The victim had sustained severe trauma to her face and neck.

Police sources indicate the incident appears to be domestic in nature, but the relationship between the victim and the suspect remains unclear. The suspect was still at large at the time of the report. The New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the official cause of death. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.
