Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah involved in tense attempted arrest

Tensions rose at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, during an attempted arrest of Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South. The incident involved a confrontation between the MP, who is also a legal practitioner, and an individual identifying as an officer from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

Conflicting reports exist regarding the motive for the attempted arrest. Some sources suggest the action was linked to investigations involving the ‘Ghana Jollof’ TikTok account, alleging the MP failed to respond to invitations to assist with the probe. However, the MP’s representatives claim no such invitations were received.

Mr. Awuah has recently been representing Salomey Awity Baffoe, a senior nursing officer currently remanded in connection with the Ghana Jollof investigation. The MP has publicly questioned the legal basis for Baffoe’s detention.
