Manik Pashari, witness in Sayedee case, buried amid local tension

Manik Pashari, an 87-year-old freedom fighter and key prosecution witness in the international crimes against humanity case against former Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delwar Hossain Sayedee, was buried in the early hours of Sunday in Pirojpur.

Following his death on Saturday in Tungipara, Gopalganj, tensions arose in Pirojpur when local Jamaat-e-Islami leaders and activists protested his burial and the decision to accord him a state guard of honour. Reports indicate that activists blocked access roads and, in one instance, a previously dug grave was filled in by others.

Due to the unrest, the deceased's body was moved to the Pirojpur Police Lines under heavy security, where he received a guard of honour. The burial was eventually completed around 1:30 am at his family graveyard in Chitolia village, performed by his wife, daughter, and sister under police protection.
