Manila declares state of calamity in flood-hit barangays
The Manila City Council has declared a state of calamity in numerous barangays following severe flooding caused by the southwest monsoon. The declaration follows a directive from Mayor Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso to ensure immediate relief for affected residents.
A total of 26 barangays, including 101, 105, 195, 199, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 292, 313, 314, 327, 330, 432, 598, 600, 602, 607, 649, 686, 738, 800, 884, 893, 895, and 903, are included in the resolution. This status allows local officials to access calamity funds to procure essential goods such as medicine, hot meals, and other relief supplies.
Vice Mayor Chi Atienza stated that barangays not initially listed in the resolution may still access relief once they secure certification from the Manila Department of Social Welfare.
