Manila International Book Fair draws 235,000 visitors

The 2026 Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) concluded with an estimated turnout of approximately 235,000 visitors at the SMX Convention Center Manila. Held from September 9 to 13, the event featured book launches, signings, and discussions under the theme ‘Get Lit: Reading in a New Light.’

Senator Loren Legarda noted that the high attendance reflects a sustained interest in physical books and a growing opportunity for the Philippine literary and publishing sectors. She emphasized the need to strengthen the local book ecosystem, including writing, publishing, distribution, and accessibility in schools and communities. The success follows the Philippines’ role as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Frankfurter Buchmesse, which increased international exposure for Filipino creatives.

Attendees showed significant interest in history, culture, and fiction. Notable highlights included the Ateneo de Manila University Press and ADMU Journals booth, which drew crowds for signings with prominent figures such as historian Ambeth R. Ocampo and author Edgar Calabia Samar. Popular reading trends at the fair included works on Philippine history, social issues, regional culture, and academic journals covering management and historical viewpoints.
