Manila Mayor Isko Moreno creates school safety task force

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno (Domagoso) signed Executive Order 29 establishing the Manila School and Community Safety Task Force, dubbed the Safer Schools Initiative, to prevent armed violence and mass‑casualty incidents in schools and other public spaces.

The task force will coordinate the Manila Police District, the Schools Division Office, health, disaster‑risk, barangay officials and private school representatives to remove illegal firearms, assess threats, conduct a city‑wide school safety audit within 90 days and update emergency response plans within 180 days. The move follows a recent shooting in Tacloban that left three students dead and several wounded.
