Manila to host August 2027 FIBA World Cup qualifying window for Boomers and Gilas

FIBA confirmed that the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila will host the next window of the Australian Boomers’ qualification campaign for the 2027 World Cup. The Boomers will play Syria on 28 August and Jordan on 30 August, alongside New Zealand, the Philippines (Gilas), Jordan, Syria and Iran in Group E. To reach Qatar 2027, Australia must finish in the top three of the group.

Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone called the August window a “do‑or‑die” stretch for the Philippines’ World Cup bid. He noted uncertainty over the recovery of naturalised centre Quentin Millora‑Brown after hernia surgery and the availability of Kai Sotto, while veteran Mike Phillips will miss the window. Cone stressed the importance of the upcoming games against Jordan and Iran as the team fights for qualification.
