Manipur aims to reach 100,000 Lakhpati Didis by 2029
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh announced a state goal to increase the number of ‘Lakhpati Didis’ from 26,000 to 100,000 by 2029. The initiative, launched by the central government, seeks to help women in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) achieve an annual household income of at least Rs 1 lakh through sustainable livelihood activities.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 18th SARAS Aajeevika Mela 2026 in Imphal, the Chief Minister emphasized that achieving this target requires the active support and intervention of banking institutions. He noted that banks are essential for strengthening SHGs and promoting women-led enterprises.
Singh also highlighted Manipur’s strong financial performance regarding SHG loans, noting that the state’s loan default rate is approximately two per cent, significantly lower than the national average of five per cent.
