Manipur Assembly passes resolution to update NRC before census

The Manipur Legislative Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution requesting the Government of India to update the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state prior to conducting a census. The resolution, moved by Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh, reaffirms previous legislative stances taken in August 2022 and March 2024.

Separately, Keisham Meghachandra Singh, leader of the Manipur Congress Legislature Party, has called for a government that operates above community interests and armed-group narratives. Singh emphasized the need for political neutrality and accountability to restore public confidence and ensure that no individuals receive political protection for violence.
