Manipur Census 2027 house listing postponed by Ministry of Home Affairs

The Indian government has postponed the house listing process for the 2027 Census in Manipur until further notice. According to an official notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the decision amends a previous notification from January 7, 2026.

While the house listing for Census 2027 will proceed in all other states and union territories across India, Manipur has been specifically excluded from the current schedule. The notification, issued by the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Mrityunjay Kumar Narayan, did not specify the exact reasons for the postponement in the state.

Manipur Chief Minister Khemchand Yumnam Singh welcomed the decision, stating that the postponement reflects the central government's sensitivity to the real concerns of the people of Manipur. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their leadership in addressing the state's interests to strengthen peace and stability.
