Manipur Chief Minister meets INDIA bloc leaders over rising violence
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh met with leaders of the opposition INDIA bloc on Tuesday to discuss the state’s deteriorating security situation. The meeting followed the recent killing of three civilians by armed miscreants in the Imphal East and Kangpokpi districts.
Led by former Chief Minister and Congress leader Okram Ibobi Singh, the delegation urged the Chief Minister to convene an all-party meeting to address the ongoing violence involving the Naga, Kuki, and Meitei communities. The opposition leaders called for political intervention from the central government and suggested facilitating meetings between state representatives and Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Chief Minister Singh described the discussions as constructive and assured the delegation that the matter would be investigated. Meanwhile, Okram Ibobi Singh questioned the government’s ability to protect its citizens, stating that the law and order machinery has failed to prevent recurring bloodshed.
