Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh urges tribal peace and backs women’s football

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the state is gradually returning to normalcy and appealed to the Meitei community to act as “big brother” to ease the ongoing Naga‑Kuki tension. He highlighted recent meetings with Hmar, Meitei and Rongmei groups, efforts to return internally displaced persons to their homes and the need for peace to enable development projects.

The same day the chief minister met nine Manipuri women footballers who were part of India’s SAFF Women’s Championship‑winning squad. The players praised their recent triumphs, urged stronger state support for women’s football, and suggested annual tournaments and better career opportunities for sportspersons in government service. Singh reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promote sports, improve infrastructure and sustain grassroots development for women’s football in Manipur.
