Manipur CM announces welfare schemes for farmers and women vendors

Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has launched several initiatives aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of citizens in the state. Under a North Eastern Council (NEC) sponsored project, the state government distributed 31 pregnant heifers to Scheduled Caste farmers across the Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts to boost local milk production and create rural self-employment.

Additionally, the Chief Minister announced a special financial assistance scheme for women street vendors, intended to be implemented before the Ningol Chakouba festival in 2026. During a recent address, Singh also discussed the economic impact of the ethnic crisis that began in 2023, noting that frequent shutdowns and blockades have caused the state to lose between Rs 25 to Rs 30 crore per day in tax revenue.
