Manipur CM reports transport resumption on NH-2 amid economic strain
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has reported progress in restoring normalcy following the ethnic violence that began in May 2023. The Chief Minister praised the Naga and Kuki communities for facilitating the free movement of public transport along National Highway-2 (NH-2). This cooperation has allowed public transport services to resume between Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati, with hundreds of passengers traveling the route over recent days.
However, the Chief Minister also noted that the prolonged ethnic crisis has severely strained the state’s financial resources and negatively impacted the economy. While addressing the Manipur Excise Raising Day, Singh highlighted the importance of joint operations between state and Central security forces in containing the violence. He also noted that the state has collected approximately Rs 29 crore in excise revenue since March 2026 as part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the region's financial health.
