Manipur CM urges citizens to avoid bandhs and blockades
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has appealed to all sectors of society to refrain from organizing bandhs or blockades to express grievances. He stated that such actions can lead to unwanted violence and cause significant hardship to vulnerable groups, specifically daily wage earners, students, and women vegetable vendors.
Singh urged stakeholders to adopt other forms of democratic agitation instead. He noted that the state and union governments remain committed to meeting the aspirations of the people of Manipur. The Chief Minister also highlighted the recent successful campaign by civil society organizations and MLAs in New Delhi regarding the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in the state.
Additionally, the Chief Minister warned that stringent action would be taken against agitators who break the law to create chaos. He mentioned he was traveling to New Delhi to discuss various state issues with central leaders and noted that road transport services between Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati have resumed after more than three years.
