Manipur CM urges Meitei community to lead peace efforts
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh has called upon the Meitei community to act as ‘big brother and big sister’ to help resolve the ongoing ethnic crisis in the state. During a meeting with renowned local artists in Imphal, Singh noted that the conflict, which originally involved two communities, has expanded to involve three.
Singh emphasized the importance of restoring trust and bridging barriers between communities. He argued against blaming entire groups for the actions of individuals, citing an instance where Kuki legislator Letzamang Haokip assisted in saving 120 Meitei labourers in the Churachandpur district.
The Chief Minister also noted that the Jiribam district has returned to normalcy. Additionally, he expressed the government’s support for implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) within the state.
